Game rules. The rules of this game are described by Lennert Lanssens. Manilla is a game widespread in Belgium in West Flanders. It is believed that it first appeared in France under the name Manille, which comes from the Spanish word Malilla, which means the term that is used to refer to the high card in each suit. Consider the option of playing four, where two players play against the other two players, the option of playing together, three and six will consider later. Players sit at the table, so that the left and right of each of the players sat his opponent. The first deliverer in the game is determined by lot, and in the following games, players deal cards in turn. The deck is carefully shuffled by the deliverer and then each player is dealt 8 cards in the following order, first 3 cards, then 2 cards and after 3 cards. Then the deliverer takes his cards in his hands and assigns a trump suit. Until the trump card is assigned, no one has the right to look at their cards, except the deliverer. The game can be played without a trump card, if the deliverer declares the game without trumps. After the game is announced (with trump or without trump), all other players look at their cards and the opponent of the deliverer can declare ” I go together “this means that the points of the rival team of the deliverer will be doubled in case of victory, but if after this announcement, the partner of the deliverer declares” I go against”, then his points together with the partner in case of victory will be multiplied by 4. The first move in the draw of cards belongs to the player to the left of the deliverer. The player can go with any of his cards, each next player clockwise must put a card of the same suit, if there is no such card, then he can put any card. Four laid out cards (a bribe) is won by the player who puts the highest card. The same player has the right of the first move in the drawing of the following cards (bribes). But! There are 2 special rules in the drawing of cards:

  1. If Your opponent before your turn put the highest card and can win a bribe, then You must put the highest card than Your opponent.
  2. If your partner before your turn put the highest card and can win a bribe, then You do not have to put the highest card than Your partner.
    Thus, 8 bribes are played, after which each team counts the points they took in bribes.

Cost of cards in points

10 – 5 points;
ACE-4 points;
King-3 points;
Lady-2 points;
Jack-1 point;
7,8,9 – 0 points.
The total value of all cards in the deck is 60 points. The team that scores the most points subtracts them from 30, and gets the points difference on their own account, the other team gets nothing. If both teams scored 30 points, no points are awarded to either team in this game, and double points are played in the next game. Points are doubled in the following cases:
if both teams scored equal points, the points are doubled in the next game;
deliverer decided to play without trumps;
rival dealer announced ” I go together”;
one of the teams wins all the bribes.

Manilla for two players

When playing together, two missing players are replaced by blockheads, and their cards are used by partners. That is, each of the players in the partnership of one blockhead. The cards are dealt in the same way as in the game of four, only the cards of the fool are used by his partner in accordance with the order of his turn. Drawing cards is the same as in the game four and points are awarded similarly. A fool is a nonexistent player whose cards are used by his partner.

Manilla for three players

When playing a Threesome, each player is dealt 10 cards, and the two extra cards are placed in the clear in the center of the table and are not used in the game. The deliverer alone plays against two other players who play in partnership. All other rules of the game are the same as when playing four.

Manila for six players

When playing six of them play 2 teams of three players in each team. Each player is dealt 5 cards, the remaining two cards are placed in the center of the table in the clear and do not take part in the game. All the rest rules of the game, as and under game foursome.
